Umbilical
Janine Antoni @ The Monro for Liverpool Biennial 2012
Probably the smallest piece for this year's Biennial, but none the less powerful. At one end of the spoon is a cast of the inside of her mouth; at the other is a cast of her mother's hand. It's bang on target as an example of a piece of art that fits the Biennial's Hospitality theme.
It's a beautiful thing that looks quite lonely sat on its own on an otherwise empty table, right at the edge. It clearly isn't umbilical in a literal sense, but it does talk about connection and interaction between people.
