I had a wonderful couple of hours visiting a couple of local NNR's, Barnack Hills and Holes and Castor Hanglands, as a reward for completing all my marking. Masses of Fragrant Orchid in flower at Barnack, as well as several Greater Broomrape and the first Marbled White of the season.
Even more orchids at Castor, a hybrid swarm of Common Spotted-orchids and Marsh-orchids with lots of individual variation in flower colour and patterning (see extra for a particularly spectacular example) as well as a good stand of Round-fruited Rush, a scarce species that I think is rather beautiful. And to top it off Chris and I watched many Black Hairstreak nectaring on Wild Privet, completely alone without any other photographers around.
