An Ikonic Adventure

Movember 2012: Time to get this 'Mo on the road.

It's that time of the year again where men around the world unite, embracing that glorious strip of facial hair, "the ol' nose tickler". For many it is a challenge, one that sorts the men from the boys. Regardless of the fact that some may end up looking like Ron Burgundy, others can barely support a prepubescent shadow and anything in-between goes, but these men gather together for one great cause, Movember.

For those of you are hairless to the idea, each November men sprout a moustache to raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health. Simon, Adam and Cam are on board this year, each with varying levels of expected success. You may notice that there are only 2 Ikonoclasts in this photo and you would be correct. Adam forgot to shave... 2 days in a row. None the less he will be at no disadvantage as the man would probably have a commendable tash by the time you finish reading this blog.

This will be Simon's fourth year of donning the moustache and means a lot more to him than looking Mexican and repelling women.

"Movember is a cause that is very close to my heart and even more so this year. Throughout my first attempt in 2009, my (prepubescent looking) moustache was quite a joke to my family, but they all supported my efforts and were happy to support the cause. There has been a long line of depression within the males in my family so it was great to have their support.

Sure enough, 12 months later my uncle Tim- who I was quite close with, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and the mo came back for round 2, thicker, more definitive yet still very Mexican. The support from my extended family and my friends was remarkable.

After a tough couple of years, Tim lost his battle with cancer and passed away in August 2012. So this year's mo really means a lot to me and my family.

In saying this I would like to encourage everyone to support this great cause. To all men over 40 with a family history of prostate cancer or 50 if you have no history to go to get your annual check up... Early detection is the key, it might just save your life.

Thanks"

We will be tracking the lads and their growth over the next month as well as keeping an eye out for any good mo's growing in within the Brisbane media industry.
