Words #2 ~ Ugly

Don't you think even the word ugly looks ugly? It's so messy and it gets stuck in your throat when you say it. Uggggly.
I've been rewatching some Ugly Betty this week;I love that programme! One of my favourite things about it is that she never has the makeover she is repeatedly told she needs. Admittedly by the end of the show she looks a lot more 'fashionable', but you keep expecting there to be a big changing moment, like in The Princess Diaries or Miss Congeniality (Both of which are among my favourite films, but that's not the point).
Even though it sounds cheesy, I love that the message it gives it that beauty isn't only skin deep. And how crazy is it that we invest so much in our appearance and image, when that's the kind of beauty that fades and doesn't last anyway?

'Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful.'
