Goin' tae Troon

From 1945 until today, thousands of taxi drivers have donated their time and effort to make the 'Trip to Troon' the annual success that it it. Most of the drivers don fancy dress costumes, much to the delight of the people who line the route through Glasgow and in Troon itself.

Originally the outing was for disabled children from EastPark Home and Mearnskirk Hospital which was a hospital for children with TB but now the children come from a variety of Additional Learning Support Schools all over Glasgow.

On my way home from Pollokshields this morning I was stopped at traffic lights ... there was a policeman directing traffic and only allowing the traffic to move up and down the main road ... I thought at first that there had been an accident because my line of cars was going nowhere.

After MANY minutes we heard the honking of horns and the convoy of taxis appeared and continued on their way up Pollokshaws Road. The photos, taken from the car, are not the best but these wonderful taxi drivers deserve their moment of fame on Blip.
