Close Your Beak When You Chew!
That's something my mother would say...or at least something similar.
I can't recall if I've blipped a decent shot of a male Hooded oriole this season. Here he is. The Hooded orioles migrate to southern Arizona for the summer and are here from April through October. I think they are stunning birds and love when they visit me.
I haven't been up to Madera for quite a while but am thinking I might take a trek up there Saturday to escape the heat. Tomorrow is actually going to be the hottest day of the year so far (an excessive heat warning is posted for temps to be between 107°-111°) but there's no cell reception in the mountains and I have no caregiver for Mom on Fridays. Can't leave her alone with that kind of heat, especially if we lose power. Her oxygen is dependent upon electricity.
Nothing new to report today. Sunny, blistering hot. Even though there's water in the dishes, I go out several times a day to dump it and refill them with cool water. I think my feathered friends know what I'm doing because I've barely turned my back and they are already sipping or frollicking. And as you can imagine, I'm going through crates of oranges. I'm going to make my own natural rat repellent so that I can put some seed out for them again, too.
