Lerwick Lanes
Most of the Lerwick Lanes have their current name and also their former name. The former name usually the "Closs" name was generally named after the developer of that part of Lerwick. In 1845 the Police Commissioners replaced the early names by ones relating to politicians ( for example here we have Pitt) or political happenings (Reform). Also used names from Sir Walter Scott's fiction (Norna).
Not sure what that says about the Police Commissioners of the era.
