Sir Winston and Lady Clementine Churchill
We fondly thought that the journey back to Kent would be more straightforward than the journey to the Cotswolds. Not so, we planned to stop off at Chartwell on the way home, which should have taken 2 and a quarter hours took a further hour only averaging 35mph.
Chartwell was interesting, it’s the first time I’ve been in the house for many a year. Mind you, this was the 4th National Trust property in 6 days so they were beginning to merge into a blur.
The final leg was, if anything the worst of all. Trapped on M25 and snarled on the M20. Kent is getting so isolated from the rest of the country as to get anywhere north or west involves the M25 and often the Dartford Crossing.
In the end, we were relieved and thankful to get home, safely and all in one piece.
