Birthday walk
After a slightly worrying morning, we managed to take the dogs out to Fineshade Woods for an afternoon walk to celebrate their thirteenth birthdays (they're sisters) - so glad Gemma was there to enjoy it! At the end of our walk we went to the cafe for tea and cake (Pete bought me a chai latte, which was rather luxurious) - and the dogs enjoyed sharing a few crumbs of toffee apple muffin while lazing in some surprisingly warm November sun.
Our scary moment came just as we were preparing to take them out. Gemma had been quite enthusiastic with lots of tail wagging, but by the time I'd packed my camera bag, she was trembling uncontrollably under the table. She looked very sorry for herself indeed. So we rang the vets, who agreed to see us at 12.30 - by which time (after being wrapped in a blanket and given three teaspoons of honey) she was fine again. They checked her over anyway and confirmed that all seemed to be OK, but decided to take another set of bloods just in case.
We got the results while we were out; fortunately everything is still progressing well, though her lactate is still a bit high which may be associated with some ongoing inflammation of the pancreas. Hopefully after a final trip to the vet on Saturday morning for one more blood test we'll be done with this!!
