Evolution vs. Progress

Our philosophy teacher, a guy arranging us in half of circle so he can take the origin, was quite a funny character. One time, a student asked him:
"Evolution is not the same with progress?"
Teacher smiled, than said:
"Why do you think these are two separate words?"
