Remarkable
I doubt we have had a mid-June day in the last decade that one could ride out in, in full sunshine at 10:30 am and not be eaten alive by the horseflies. Alone the fact that the girls are wearing long sleeved jackets is unheard of. Does though make for a very pleasant, stressless hack. I met them at the turning point to collect Luna who was pretty exhausted. I think the girls were out for well over 2 hours.
Back home filled another trailer full of weeds and trimmings and took it over to the compost yard.
No late night working tonight as Germany playing a crucial match at the World Cup. Half an hour before kick-off, I took the dogs for an evening walk. The village was empty of any sign of human life and with the evening temperature falling below 10°C, no sign of the customary BBQs and outdoor get-togethers.
We eventually got home, warmed up some leftover lasagne and settled down to watch the second half and Germany lose. I had given up watching at 94:59 minutes and went to the little boy's room. Then suddenly I heard the most amazing roar in stereo. One coming from Angie who had by now given up hope and gone to bed to watch the final moments of misery and cry in her pillow and secondly from the direction of the village. I suspect many had gone out on to their terraces for a smoke and a bit of relief from the hard days of soul searching and trying to cope with the idea of four years of not being World Champions.
Well, the hope lives on even if the first hurdle is not yet crossed.
