That's what it says over the gate. And this is what is inscribed in the gatepost.
"This gateway has been erected by subscription to the memory of William Ross, Bank Agent Tain; as a testimony to his personal worth and useful public life. Born, 11th July 1828. Died, 8th April 1880."
