Memorial cairn on the Culloden battlefield
The inscription reads:
The Battle of Culloden
was fought on this moor
16th April 1748
The graves of the gallant highlanders who fought for Scotland & Prince Charlie are marked by the names of their clans.
The moor is quite a spooky place. Not the sort of ground you would expect for the last great pitch battle in the British Isles. Often held as being a battle of English Government versus Scots, but the actual battle was mostly fought by Scottish and Irish on both sides of various religions and allegiances.
