SF Pride

The 48th Annual SF Pride parade, a five-hour-long extravaganza stretching from the Embarcadero to Civic Center, featuring 240 contingents--politicians, community groups, corporations, individuals, entertainers--a mass of celebrating rainbows filling downtown with their exuberant joy. There was the parade, and then there was the festival--the area between City Hall and the Asian Art Museum was cordoned off for the celebration, and I have seen an estimate of nearly a million onlookers and participants. Wall-to-wall people, however you count them, in various states of dress and undress, happy to celebrate on a gorgeous day in the city.

The Extra is our 29th Anniversary portrait, the real reason we are in the city. It's nice to think a million people celebrated with us.
