2018 Sunday — Bath Time

Day 17 of Summer Vacation

This event — bathing three dogs — doesn’t seem that significant, but it is.

All three dogs were more than dirty because we have recently moved in SoCal from a home with a lovely back yard (pool, patio, artificial turf) to a home with nothing but dirt and dried weeds (that have been whacked with a weed whacker and we’ll fix, repair, improve the front and back yards when we get back there in autumn). That house has been a rental for 24 years, so the yards were neglected (not to mention other things). Three pups walking through a dirt back yard, makes for dirty dogs!

Bathing these dogs ourselves was also significant because it saved our wallet a large chunk of change (probably a hundred bucks). When we became a family with three pups, I don’t think we acknowledged the potential financial cost — food, grooming, medical.

So there it is — Mitzi getting a bath. And of course, Max and Chloe had their turn in the tub.

In the morning hours today, we put the pups in their crates and the two of us walked to the Cayucos pier and stopped at the new Historical Museum. The museum used to be located in the Visitor Center, which is next door to Martin’s Restaurant. A lot more people see and visit the museum now in its new location. Walking to downtown and back was lovely. This little town is full; it always is on summer weekends.

We didn’t take the pups with us because they think the main objective of walking is to pause, to sniff and to pee. Chloe also thinks it is an opportunity to pick a fight with every big dog that we pass.

This has been a good first Sunday of summer; we enjoyed some accomplishment and some leisure all in one day.
