Preston Mill

Relieved of our childminding duties for the day Mr Flum suggested coffee in Aberlady but he had forgotten about the haar, still chilling the coast so, after a visit to nearby Gosford Bothy we headed inland to Preston Mill, one of the oldest working meal mills in Scotland.

It being Wednesday the mill was not open so we wandered up to C16 Phantassie Doocot (extra photo), a beehive style doocot with a roof extension, (which appears still to function as one entered by the top opening), watched swallows feeding three young lined up on the telegraph wire then sat awhile overlooking the River Tyne, watching various birds - a young robin, dunnock, pied wagtail.

By then it was lunchtime and we repaired to the cafe at Smeaton Nurseries, a place for which we have seen signs but never visited - we enjoyed our time there and will return.
