Tsunami Memorial
We visited the Tsunami memorial in Khao Lak today - police boat 813 was guarding the daughter and grandson of the King when the 2004 tsunami struck - it was carried 2km inland to where it remains today (the kings grandson who was jet skiing at the time died).
Of the 8000 people who lost their lives in Thailand on 26th Dec 2004, most of them were in Khao Lak, many of them tourists and there are still several thousand listed as missing. It was a very sobering experience. Could have done without the very graphic pictures that we were shown too.
