Covarrubias and El Cid

Left England in blazing sunshine (see yesterday); arrived in northern Spain to overcast skies, and now, heavy rain, thunder, lightning - strange...

Stopping for the night in a small medieval village 40km south of Burgos, Covarrubias. Absolutely delightful. Half-timbered houses (we are in one on the main square - View from our window, and extra of Pension Galin at night), cobbled streets, geraniums everywhere, secret plazas, a stunning church with the oldest still used organ in Spain, and the Arlanza river running alongside.

Which we crossed half in the water, half on stepping stones, to walk for a couple of hours on the Camino Del Cid. Tiny vineyards and small fields of wheat, but mostly wild. Saw so many flowers and birds, and then a doe and her fawn ran across the path right in front of us, then stood on the other side, barking. I startled a snake trying to photograph some fruit trees (me, not the snake, had the camera). And dramatic skies.
