I cycled past Histon Baptist Church at the north end of Cambridge to get to Andrea's yoga class. This is the first Wednesday that I've been both in the country and not embroiled in volunteer work, and I've wanted to be able to attend these classes she's set up. Andrea is my favourite teacher I've encountered in Cambridge. She's not a softly spoken wispy yoga teacher but one with good humour and some forthright instruction. For me her approach makes me strive to do better and follow her words, rather than get annoyed at straining to hear what a meeker teacher may be saying. She also leads a rousing bit of chanting, which always gets the juices going. Yoga people often talk about finding a mentor who is part of a 'lineage' of teachers. Andrea would be mine if I could get to her more often.
I held a handstand (assisted) for longer than before, so that was a good win, and worth the longer cycle out there. The class she taught tonight was quite heavy on quieter meditation and I caught myself so relaxed that I was starting to snore. I felt much more zen when the class ended and I bombed down the guided busway cycle path with the evening sun still warm and bright.
