One thing they don't have here is the ubiquitous British privet hedge. They're usually tall white oleander bushes or as here, the gloroius red hibiscus. My tiny potted version has tentatively put out a flower after lots of tlc on returning from the UK earlier this month, to find it a seemingly dead, dry accumulation of sticks.
