Big Pink

Driving home last night, there it was, the big bank tower in all its pink glory.
Pretty much last minute, we got tickets to see "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill," at Portland Center Stage. Very good. Mostly we decided to go because we had just learned Andre St James, the original bass player, had died last month. He was a friend for 25 years. Someone who worked with kids as Eric had done, and who we'd see perform every few years. Then, runnng into him at the Arbor Lodge New Seasons became a fun and frequent event. Crazy how often it happened. Sit for a cup of coffee or just a hurried hello in a crowded grocery aisle. But we had no idea he'd even been sick. Grapevines don't really work, or I don't know how they work.
What really happened is that a newer New Seasons opened up nearer to home and we started going there and no longer ran into him.
My sister has gone home from the hospital again! She is my valiant sister. But another friend has just landed in the hospital. He is so valiant, too, and I'm really aching for he and his wife right now.
