Lift-off......
.....wings flapping and away he flew.......just to the other side of the lake.
Australian Coots belong to the rail family but are aquatic birds spending most of their lives on lakes, lagoons and wetland areas preferably bordered with reeds and raupo. They're distinguishable from ducks with their prominent white frontal shields, pointed bills and overall sooty colour. During the nesting period they can be quite aggressive towards other birds in guarding their territories, they've been known to attack black swans.
While out and about today I called in to the wetlands, quite a few ducks and coots about and a few black swans. It was lovely and warm, 16C....so nice to have a higher temperature for a winter's day.
Have a good week everyone :)
