A beautiful object

This is a vase made from swamp Kauri, Kauri being one of New Zealand's most loved native trees. It is thought that at some stage a tidal wave (tsuname) crossed the whole of the northern tip of the North Island of New Zealand sweeping everything before it, including these enormous trees with heights over 50 meters. The trees lay buried in swamp for centuries and are now coming to the surface.
This vase was made by a turner called Rick Taylor and is carbon dated at 3,860 years old, it is one of my prized possesions.
The largest extant Kauri tree is named Tane Mahuta (God of the Forest) and is over 51 meters in height.
