Naughty squirrel
What a hot day! It looks like June 2018 was the hottest month ever recorded in the UK. We are fast approaching drought conditions and everywhere the grass is looking withered and brown. But whose complaining, everyone is loving this summer so far!
Adam got back this morning from the 21st party he went to last night. The most scary thing happened there, he was sleeping in his car after the party (as is the normal custom) which was parked in a field next to his friend’s house where the party was held. He was woken up this morning with people banging on the car windows as a fire had broken out under the car – luckily he got out the car and they put the fire out, but no one knows how it started. He car smells of smoke now, but thankfully that is the only problem, it could have been so much worse. No one can work out how the fire started, possibly the heat of the engine on the dry grass?
I was doing all the laundry this morning, including the smoky bedding from Adam’s car, when the washing machine broke down. It is only a year old and is a top of the range Miele washing machine still under warranty so that is very annoying . We need to get it fixed as soon as possible as we can’t cope one day without a washing machine, especially with a full house again.
Jenni arrived from Cambridge in time for lunch – except lunch was delayed as we had to take the wet washing to the laundromat. We ate lunch outside, on the covered patio which provided no relief at all from the heat of the day. Thomas had to go to school this morning for all day orchestra rehearsals for the concerts coming up this week, it being the last week of term – and in fact it is the last week of the school year. It was such a hot day to be inside rehearsing all day, poor him.
Tonight there was a special final evensong service at school for our lovely headmaster who is retiring this week, and ex-choristers were invited back to sing with the choir. It was lovely to see Adam and Thomas stand side by side singing in the choir, and Adam enjoyed being back very much. I had hoped to take some photos of them but I forgot my camera at home! So luckily I had taken a photo earlier of this naughty squirrel coming down the tree to steal all the bird food out of the bird feeders.
