On the 6th and 7th June, I saw fluttering flashes of scarlet amongst the vegetation. It was a cinnabar moth (see 'extra').

Now, many of the ragworts at the same location are sporting the orange and black hooped larvae of the same moth - Tyria jacobaeae.


They will overwinter as pupae and emerge mid-May onwards the following year.
