Day 184/18. A Roesel's Bush Cricket

In England, until the early 20th century, Roesel's Bush-crickets, like this one, were only found on the south-east coast. It is about 2cm long. Those legs are made for jumping.
Recent years have seen a rapid expansion in its range, particularly helped by roadside rough grassland and scrub providing a 'corridor' for it to travel along. It favours damp meadows and grassland, but can be found elsewhere. It is usually wingless, but a rare winged form does exist and fly, and may be more numerous during hot summers.
This one found its way into our kitchen and then into my bug catcher. After a few close ups (see extra picture today) I let it go, of course. But not before capturing this shot of, hopefully, it in a fairly natural environment.
