Changing colour

Things are looking a bit stressed in the garden due to the heat and lack of rain.  I have been watering plants in pots but that's all, even if the grass gets completely dried out it will recover in the autumn when it starts raining again. 
 The cat next door still won't go back to his new home so I am still feeding him, I don't know what the solution to this problem is.
