the best and worst
This morning I watched the best and worst of peregrine life. The best was the juveniles acrobatic flying with their dad, just majestic. The birds are now flying (and landing) so well. They are beginning to practise their predatory skills in the air.
Then it turned nasty, a juvenile chased a pigeon, although as yet they can't catch anything. When suddenly the adult male rocketed in for nowhere and caught the pigeon and immediately dumped it on a ledge of the mill and immediately flew off as the juvenile landed after him. He seemed to be saying that's how you catch them, now lets see you kill it. Well the juvenile made a real mess of trying to kill the pigeon, the images in extras are very harsh please do not look if you do not like seeing the unpleasant side of nature. I suppose all predators have to learn this way but it wasn't easy to watch and in the end the juvenile gave up and flew off. The pigeon sat there alive, just about.
