Stanedge tunnel

A lovely walk along the canal today and up the bridle path to stanedge. This is where the canal disappears for a while into a tunnel. More details in extras. The design illiustrates how they used to take the canal boats through by laying planks then lying on their backs and pushing the boat through with their legs. I mentioned this to a friend, who had never heard of such a thing. Strange isn't it that you expect people to know stuff that you probably only really know because you were brought up in a certain area.
As I was walking over the moor I was passed by small groups of teenagers who I assumed were on their Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Stopped to chat to one of their teachers, turns out they were and were from my old school, The Radclyffe school in Chadderton. Coincidence!
