Nellie Spindler
Arranged weeks ago to go to the local theatre with a friend, way before we knew England would be playing!
It was a collection of readings, talks and a couple of short films about a Wakefield born nurse called Nellie Spindler. She lied about her age to join a medical team who ended up just behind the front line at Passchendaele in 1917. Tragically, at the age of 26, she was hit by a German shell and killed. It was an interesting evening.
Hubby was also out so we agreed to try and avoid the score and watch the match when we got in. A man in the theatre looked st his phone at the end and announced that it was extra time, and the streets were deserted so I would have guessed anyway. Hubby couldn’t resist checking his phone! So we watched the end of extra time and a very stressful penalty shootout!
