Dad & Mom @Vets Cemetery
I added the flags for this 4th of July celebration but I celebrate their lives and the blessings of being raised by my Mom & Dad every day.
My parents purchased their grave plot at our church cemetery many years before this Washington Crossing National Cemetery was completed. But it brought the family great pleasure when my Dad stated his interest in being buried with the veterans. The burial ceremony is quite beautiful, complete with a bugler. The veteran’s name and information is placed on the front of the headstone. The spouse/partner is on the reverse side. (see the extra for Mom’s side.) The family prepares the rhetoric and chooses the emblem at the top which is generally a Cross, Star of David or respective religious symbol. Since I knew I was placing their Presbyterian cross on Mom’s side, I was thrilled to chose a ‘landing Eagle’ for Dad. It’s unique in its own right but also because a cross is more commonly selected by the families. I believe both Dad & Mom appreciate my selection and would love the symbolism of our nation and its freedom.
I hope everyone enjoyed a safe, wonderful July 4th holiday with family and friends. God Bless.
FYI: Washington Crossing National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in Upper Makefield Township, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. (address: 430 Highland Rd, Newtown PA.) It opened in late 2009 and occupies approximately 205 acres.
