Afternoon on the river

Great day today. We spent the morning watching England beat Sweden in the quarter finals of the World Cup, and so advance into the semi-finals for the first time in 28 years! It was a gorgeous day - lower temperatures, lower humidity- so we had decided that once the game was over, we would go canoeing on the Little Miami. We took a picnic lunch with us, and spent a great afternoon canoeing the 9 mile stretch from Fort Ancient down to Mount Station, below Morrow. As I’d guessed, it was a popular place to be this afternoon - there haven’t been that many days so far this summer very conducive to canoeing! I’d thought we wouldn’t see much wildlife with that many people on the river, but we saw lots of turtles, a family of wood ducks, and of course lots of dragonflies and damsel flies - I’ve included one as an extra. On our way back home we stopped off at Graeters for an ice cream, then for dinner we treated ourselves to steak grilled on the barbecue.
