People on a Bridge

Retired

(backblip)

I attended a surprise retirement party for my major professor/advisor/dissertation committee chair/boss/mentor DT Morse. I was still on prednisone as well as triple dose of industrial-strength antihistamines. I talked to a lot of people, but have no recollection of what I actually said.  The meds made me at once super loopy, and so anxious I felt like I was going to crawl out of my skin. I was asked to speak, but I refused, as I had no idea  what would come out of my mouth.

If I were to say something, I'd quote the advice of Steve Martin to aspiring stand-up comedians: "be so good they can't ignore you." David is so good, at so many things, he just can't be ignored. A true polymath, psychologist, statistician, musician, writer, avid reader, you name it, he does it all.

While I hope we stay in touch, the reality of life is such, that I will speak to him much less often from now on. I will miss his quirky sense of humor, and common squirrel-chasing mindwalks we took whenever the opportunity arose. I enjoyed the fact, that no matter where we started, we would end up somewhere else entirely, via a few other completely unrelated domains.

This here is a travel bag he received at the party. He loves to travel; I hope he puts it to good use.
