A bit of Wall history

We had a looong lie and did not get up before noon. We had not to be anywhere until 8:15pm when we had booked a Japanese Restaurant at Prenzlauer Berg, close to Christina's Hotel.
We walked over our local flea market and I found another Polaroid Camera for 7 Euros, some almost new Think! shoes for 5 Euros and a new polaroid film for 12 Euros!
Neil bought me another WMF piece for my collection. Another highly specialised serving tong, this time for potato croquettes. A true must have :)
We went hope to bing the loot home before we headed off the Kiez. Unfortunately the camera was not working correctly ....and the film was monochrome, which I overlooked .... Hmmm! At least the shoes were fine :)
We left the Kiez and took the U-Bahn to Schlesische Strasse to visit 19 grams for a coffee. It was very hot!
We had originally planned to to to Friedichshain and them Arkona Platz, but in the end we stayed too long at the Café and too much walking did not appeal in the heat either.
So wee took the U-Bahn to Bernauer Strasse and studied the al fresco exhibition along the place where the wall divided Berlin. It was interesting and I once more regretted that I did not spend enough time in Berlin when the wall came down!
I was there a lot before the change, but I did miss the 90ies!
However, it is always interesting to read about the building of the wall and the way the eastern side was protected and what the East German government did in order to prevent escapes!   On the other side, the western border officers were trained to support potential escapes, make sure they people will be helped as soon as they reached the Western side. A lot of stories, dramas and miracles!
There were also a lot of tunnels built, mainly started from the western side. But not many of them were successful.
We spent quite a while there looking at the boards with pictures and texts. Then it was 7 pm and we walked to Bämeräng. Sabine und Sarah seemed happy to see us after this long time and we had our obligatory coffee. I had texted Christina but she arrived late as she unfortunately got lost on the way and it was time to walk to the restaurant.
Talking of the wall and Eastern Germany, Christina has here own incredible story to tell, as she escaped the DDR in the 70ies in the back of a car!!!!
We had booked a table at a Japanese BBQ restaurant with brilliant reviews and were not disappointed. Wonderful Wagyu meat and incredible nice service. We were all very happy there and ate for hours!
Just before midnight we left and made our ways home.

I am blipping a shot at Schlesisches Tor which I find interesting.
Extras:
Bernauer Strasse - Wall memorial:  Where the wall was is marked by the iron poles along the street. The green where the people sit was behind the wall, eastern side! For many years a deadly place. The stones in the grass that look like stepping stones, mark the way of a tunnel below it.

A Photo series of the wall at Bernauer Strasse over the years.

Eduardo with the red shoes - who sold me a broken Polaroid.
