Vanity, fair?

Many thanks to si_b for hosting the Mono Monday Challenge of vice and virtues.

Either pride or vanity inspired me to don this cooling eye pad to help reddened eyes recover from another long day of work, and yet another night short of sleep...thanks to those good railway folk pile-driving. It did sound as though War of the Worlds tripods were thundering through the valley, metallic screeching and hammering pervading the darkness.
