A Walk Across the Rooftops
Maybe not quite, this is the view of the rooftops of Ninomaru Palace in Nijo-jo Castle. Unfortunately the palace is shut for a 24 year (!!) restoration, but the gardens were open and there were many amazing ancient gates and bits of the old castle to see, as well as the outside of the palace.
As an aside, Japan is fairly dear for eating out, but we are enjoying the cold drinks machines that are all over the place, charging around 80p for all manner of nice drinks, whether in the train station or a castle.
Today was temples, a castle, gardens, finishing with a night time view from the Kyoto Tower, which brought home how many things we have missed. I think at least a week (or maybe even 2) is needed to see all the amazing sights. We've managed to cram in quite a lot in a day and a bit, and a quick trip to a bamboo forest is planned for the morning before we head to Kobe.
Loving Japan!
