A surprise....for me!

Supermarket shop this morning...bad move....the place was heaving!!!

Called in past the pond and as we got a parking space, no hanging over the white lines, we had time for a coffee and cake in the café which overlooks the pond.

As we watched the antics of the Canada geese and gulls, I was aware of "something" on the island. I couldn't believe it when we walked round to the other side of the pond to find this grey heron. First time I've seen one so close.

I checked out the details in my bird book when I got home and my pictures and found examples of the neck position at rest, when walking and in flight. The in flight one is not a great shot, but illustrates a point and the best on this occasion!!
