InvergordonArt

Through our community workshop sessions and questionnaires we
identified The Cromarty Firth as our theme to work with, as most people had
made reference to it in some way. We also identified Natal Gardens as our
site to work with, and chose to make a horizontal or flat piece for that
space, given the dramatic and changing skyline there with the oil rigs and
cruise liners.
We used the topography of the Firth as a source, and wanted to include the
idea of the deep water channel somehow, as it has helped make Invergordon
what it is.
We simplified the form of the firth right down to its basic elements, the
rivers, the basin, and the Soutars/Moray Firth, creating a 'subway map'
version of the firth. The bench has a two slat design, with the gap in the
middle representing the deep water channel. The moulds were made and the
bronze cast, and finished at the workshop unit in town, with many local
businesses helping out in the fabrication and installation stages, the piece
truly was "made in Invergordon".
