Gävle, Sweden

About 130 km. north of Stockholm.  How did we end up here?  Hahaha!

Check out of the B&B, printed out boarding passes at Copenhagen Airport, spent the morning at Copenhagen's National Museum where we learned more about 'the Danes' and Danish culture in general, took the train to Copenhagen Airport, boarded and flew, landed at Arlanda Airport at Sigtuna, just a bit north of Stockholm.  At the Information Desk, they told us what to do and we bought 72-hour public transport tickets, plus the train tickets to Stockholm.  And then ... 'your train leaves at 17.40 and goes straight to Stockholm.  It's the train at the nearest platform.  You should get there in about 20 minutes.'  But no!  The train arrived at 17.40 but rode all the way to the north.  AW noticed that there was something wrong when he consulted his GPS just after Uppsala and saw the red dot north of Stockholm.  I knew things were amiss when I noticed that the sun was setting on our left instead of on our right.  Anyway, all the way north it was, and then we were advised by the conductor to get off at Gävle, since that was where 'our' train was stopping.  Getting off elsewhere would have meant hopping on and off various 'stop-trains' and would have taken us hours.  We used the time to have dinner and I contacted our B&B hostess, who was quite worried by now and wondered if I'd cancelled without telling her.

All's well that ends well.  At Stockholm, she advised to just get a cab since it was by now too late for the metro and buses.  We got to her place quite exhausted but in a humorous mood.  As it turns out, our B&B hostess is a full cousin of King Carl Gustav XVI and we were treated to a bottle of white wine.  Her place is anything but royal, though ... just a simple apartment but all we needed at that moment was a bed.  As for WiFi, no WiFi because her provider is in the process of changing software.  So now you know why I've been delayed.  Thanks for your patience!
