... in vain
Wide Wednesday: ... in vain
"And I followed her to the stationWith a suitcase in my hand
And I followed her to the station
With a suitcase in my hand
Well, it's hard to tell, it's hard to tell
When all your love's in vain
All my love's in vain
When the train rolled up to the station
I looked her in the eye
When the train rolled up to the station
And I looked her in the eye
Well, I was lonesome, I felt so lonesome
And I could not help but cry
All my love's in vain
When the train, it left the station
With two lights on behind
When the train, it left the station
With two lights on behind
Well, the blue light was my blues
And the red light was my mind
All my love's in vain"
Robert Johnson - Love in Vain
Ah, so all the dreams of glory are in vain, and football's not coming home this weekend after all. Cathy will be able to watch the men's Wimbledon final after all, although now that Federer is out she's disappointed too!
But even so, despite the dissapointing result tonight, there has been so much to like and admire about this latest England team. Their cup run was much longer than I think most of us dared to hope for at the start. Certainly the reputations of all involved come out this much improved. It was close, tantalisingly close, but in the end the lads just couldn't quite convert those chances into goals.
I'm not sure that this really qualifies for Bob's nature subject in this week's wide wed challenge, but I've tagged it anyway in case he's feeling sympathetic this evening!
