Dresden's MOT!

Today was a big day in the life of the most vintage member of the household...Dresden! alias GK's 20 year old classic Volvo! Was time for her yearly registration without which, she would run around illegally on the roads and be in danger of being impounded....or worse!!!! Its a bit like her residence visa.

Its always an exciting experience as rules can change overnight. You never really know how much it would cost as prices can change too. Exciting because you do get to know how many traffic fines you have accumulated and unfortunately cannot proceed any further with the process until they have all been paid up!!!

Consequently some cars run around Dubai unregistered with hundreds, if not thousands of dirhams, worth of outstanding fines, hoping not to be caught by a police spot check. They are getting much stricter on that score and no day passes when someone isn't stopped by the roadside having to show their paperwork!

So...to continue.....Dresden had her bath (car wash) and off she went with her two most avid supporters, GK and me! Unfortunately she had to go through the process alone but like they do in hospital....we could watch through the windows!

First she had a pedicure as they tested her brake power. (she definitely has ticklish tyres) then a quick look at her dental cavities beneath the bonnet, finally ending with a complete underbody examination, which embarrassed her slightly......after all, who would appreciate two young men peering at your bellybutton!

Ten minutes later and she was all through.

It just left GK to finish the paperwork, collect the new registration card, stick the new data disc on her numberplate and head for an outing to the creek for a celebratory masala tea!!! (no drink driving you understand!)

Passed first time.....all because of GK's lavish care! Well done.
