Broken Hill and Silverton

Today we travelled out to Silverton which is an old mining town west of Broken Hill. Everyone says you must go there. We did and were a bit disappointed to be honest, there were old buildings and now a population of about 50. I used to work in an old mining town with similar history and felt it wasn’t quite as good. they filmed Mad Max 2 there which I haven’t seen. Next stop was a mine tour at Daydream Mine which closed in the 1800s. Wow, it was hard work, clambering up and down narrow and low shafts. A bit scary at times. The mined Silver...surprise surprise.

Next stop was a memorial to the miners who lost their lives, it is very modern and abstract and the reasons for death are a bit sad:- crushed, fell, hit, tetanus, lead poisoning, asphyxiation etc. last stop was the nature walk with heaps of plants which was right up my ally, I even found some flowers.
