Broken chain

Old folks cycling club today and there was I off to the rendezvous point, just honking up the hill out of the village like an old grimpeur when bang! The bl**dy chain broke.
'Twas not a cheap one either.
I suspect it was self inflicted because I had to join it twice, having followed the instructions and cut it too short.
