Peppered moth

I was pleased to find this Melanic form of the Peppered moth Biston betularia, in my moth trap this morning as in these parts it is quite unusual.
The peppered moth is a good example of adaptation, as in industrial areas where trees are blackened and lichens are few the paler speckled moths are less camouflaged and subject to predation, leading to this 'melanic' darker and better camouflaged form.
Here in the south, the melanic form is less well camouflaged, and therefore not seen very often.
