St Mary's Church
When I was at school, this church celebrated its 800th birthday! It stands proudly in the centre of town and, for me at least, is 'the' icon of my home town, Melton Mowbray. T and I spent some time looking around it today........so much history, though no evidence (that we could find, at least) of its earliest life. It's recently undergone some major renovations and upgrades which should keep it standing proudly for another 800 years.
The evening was spent nervously watching the World Cup England v Sweden quarter final. England are actually looking very slick and the 2-0 win sends them into the semis for the first time since 1990. The success of the national team is creating such a positive energy in the country and the hopes are growing for continued success and - dare we dream - a repeat of 1966!
