Lady Katherine

A new launch has been, well, launched on Hollingworth Lake - the Lady Katherine which replaces the Lady Alice.

The Lady Alice's early days are shrouded in mystery and no-one quite knows how the boat arrived on the lake in 1927, having served a year in Whitley Bay. Since that time she sailed the equivalent distance of three times round the world and carried more than 15,000 passengers every year.

In the 1950s the Lady Alice was one of three boats that took people round the lake, her two mates being the Pennine Queen and the Hilda. To celebrate her 70th birthday Burnley brewery Moorhouses named a beer after her. In 2002, the Commonwealth Games touch was carried across the Lake by her, the day before the Games in Manchester opened.

The Lady Alice was taken out of service, due to the need for significant repairs, in 2009.
