Before and after

The long running saga of our drains is coming to an end.

On the left you can see the original salt glazed pottery pipes and on the right the new all synthetic replacement.

The original pipes are marked with the manufacturers name and I can just make out the word PARKSTONE, an area of Poole.

In 1854 George Jennings (1810 – 1882) patented a stoneware drain pipe and in 1856 started manufacturing using clay from the Parkstone clay beds.

We think our house was built around 1905 and these pipes must have been made about that time.

They were stuffed with roots as had been shown by a camera inserted some weeks ago and action needed to be taken.

Let us hope we are good to go for another 100 years plus.

Incidentally, you may have heard of the famous Poole Pottery, established in 1873.

This is an area rich in clay.
