Bioluminescent plankton
Bioluminescent plankton are tiny organisms which produce light using a chemical called luciferin.
Bioluminescence - which comes from “bio,” meaning life, and “lumin,” meaning light - is used as a defence mechanism to draw predators towards the creature trying to eat the plankton.
But, the plankton doesn't glow all of the time.
I thought i’d throw a few Blips up :-)
During the day it looks like a rusty coloured dirt in the water but, during the night, when disturbed it becomes this beautiful glowing sight.
The group of chemicals involved to make plankton glow are broadly termed luciferins and the light is produced by a series of oxidation reactions set off by a catalyst called luciferase
