There are vibrant wee hot spots in Leith. Sadly this is one that is being strangled by developers with money wanting way more money. This may not look much, the shops are empty because leases are  deliberately not being renewed, but it is a functional vibrant micro community that looks doomed. Likely to be replaced with mega student accommodation (there is huge profit to be made from students) and a hotel (again big money maker), and some housing (no profit there then). Will the people of Leith benefit from this £50 million pound investment? Not a penny.

It made the news tonight and there is massive opposition, but as each lease expires and is not up for renewal the heart of a community is being well and truly shafted. Small start up businesses, local shops, all keeping a community going is at peril.
