Another Unique Thank You

My brother and Meg arrived last evening bearing avocados from their town of Fallbrook. It used to be the avocado capital of the country...perhaps even the world,  but fires in 2008 burned many orchards which weren't replaced and a lot of the remaining crop was damaged by a single day of record heat (116 F (46 C) degrees). They brought a cooler full of whatever could be salvaged from all the fruit that fell on the ground after such a blast of heat and we will have a guacamole fest tonight.

Today's blip is courtesy of Sebastopol junk artist Patrick Amiot...his personal thank you to all the firefighters who fought the wildfires in October. All his sculptures have the ability to fascinate just looking at all the discarded items he has used to complete it. I especially like the details on the firefigter's helmet and his mustache, so I put a close up of his head in the extras.

Finding ourselves in the right part of town, we had lunch at the Pullman Kitchen just a few blocks further down the tracks. This is my favorite part of town with it's quirky repurposed warehouses, its derelict packing plants and it's modest wooden bungalows tucked between the train tracks and the freeway. They should never have put the freeway through the middle of town the way they did...but I won't go there today. We've had a pretty successful time avoiding discussing the egregious behavior of the president in Helsinki, and hoping that the Republicans will grow some spine and get rid of him.

I do hope that the youth of the country, who will be inheriting the mess he leaves behind, will come out in force and vote the whole party out. They have failed us and even more they have failed the people they promised to help. They have done nothing but foment hatred and discontent....

But I wasn't going to talk about that....
